Sort my holiday

Are you heading off on holiday and need someone to watch your house and look after your pets? We’re here to help

Whether you’re heading off for a weekend away or going travelling for a few weeks our house-sitting and pet sitting services can give you peace of mind while you’re away by taking care of your home and making sure your beloved pets receive all the love and attention they deserve.

Travel can be stressful at times and even more so if you have animals in your family who may find going into kennels or a cattery while you’re away equally stressful or upsetting. Our house-sitting service means your pets can stay in the home they love and you know someone capable and responsible is there to look after and love them. In addition, we can take on any other jobs you need, we’ll water your plants, collect the post, put out the bins, wait in the for plumber, and ensure the security of your home as someone will be sleeping there every night you’re away.

Even if you don’t have a pet, knowing your home is lived in while you’re away will not only deter prospective burglers but also ensure any home emergencies are spotted and dealt with straight away giving you that invaluable peace of mind while you’re travelling.

Pets we’ve cared for in the past include cats and dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits and chickens but we’re always open to a new type of pet, although big spiders might be a bit of a no-no!

If you don’t need someone sleeping in but want someone to pop in daily to check the post, feed the cat and generally give the impression your house is being lived in we can do that too if you’re within the Watford area.

How we work

  • Initial Consultation

Once you email jenny@anhourearned.co.uk or phone us on 07913 872 704 we’ll earrange an initial consultation either by phone or video call to talk about how we can help.

And remember we’re always available by email, text and phone if you want to add or change tasks or want an update while you’re away.

  • On-going Service

FAQs

Do you offer drop-in visits or only house sitting?

We can do either! If you’re local to the Watford area and your pets are self sufficient and able to stay overnight alone we can do once or twice daily visits to feed and fuss; change litter or bedding, water the plants, collect the post, put out the dustbins and make your house seem lived in. We can also alternate lights and curtain pulling to give your home that lived in look.

Or if you prefer, we offer a house sitting service where we’ll live in your home while you’re away. Generally we would never leave your property for longer than a few hours. It’s our responsibility to make sure your home is secure and your animals are loved while you’re away and we take that trust very seriously!

If you’re doing daily visits, what time of day and how long do visits last?

It’s up to you! Usually we would schedule either morning and/or evening visits but we can work to your pets preferred schedule.

Visits usually last around 30 minutes but can be longer if required.

When will you collect my keys?

Please have a fully tested set of keys available for our consultation visit. Key return is as you prefer. Some of our regular clients are happy for us to hold keys for our regular visits (these are coded and locked away when not in use for security).

Will you send me updates while I’m away?

If you’d like us to we can send you regular updates on your pets so you know they’re safe and happy. If you prefer to disconnect completely we’ll only contact you in the event of an emergency.

Will you keep my data and information safe?

Yes of course, we’re registered with the Information Commissioners Office and take the protection of your data and information very seriously. You can read more about our privacy policy here.

Are you available 24/7?

We do need to sleep sometimes! Our schedule is very flexible but general hours are 8.30am - 5pm for equiries and 8.30am - 8pm for daily and consultation visits and we are available weekends and bank holidays as well, although surcharges may apply.

Ideally we prefer at least 48 hours notice for bookings but emergencies arise and life happens so if you need to get in touch for a last minute booking just drop us a call, text or email and we’ll respond as soon as we can.

What if my pet becomes ill or there’s a household emergencywhile I’m away?

Your pets’ and your house’s safety and well being is our top priority but emergencies do happen. We will discuss your pets’ health history, medication requirements & insurance arrangements during our initial consultation visit so we’re fully informed and in the event of an emergency contact you immediately to discuss what next steps. We can administer veterinary prescribed medication.

We go through all your house’s quirks during our visit to, how to turn off the water, spot an issue with the boiler, locate the fuse box etc etc. In ther event of any issues we will update you and can book and liaise with any tradespeople who may need to visit to resolve the situation.

You’re staying overnight in my house, do I need to prepare anything, do you bring your own food?

Good question! Usually we would sleep in a spare room or the master bedroom as you prefer. We will ask you to provide bedding and towels and will use your kitchen to cook while we’re staying.

We don’t ask you to provide any food but would usually use your kitchen basics (seasonings, oil, sauces etc). Anything we finish we will replace and of course, if you’d prefer we don’t use anything please let us know and we can provide our own. You don’t need to make any special arrangements for us!

I have some jobs and errands while I’m away, can you help?

Of course! Some jobs like plant watering, collecting post, dog walking, animal care and liaising with tradespeople who are visiting are included in our rates. We’re happy to undertake other jobs as well so if you have any errands that need running, shopping you need for your return or you’d like some organising and decluttering done while you’re away, just let us know! Some additional charges may apply for these extra jobs.

Where do you travel? Are there any extra charges?

Travel up to 20 miles is included in our house sitting rates but if you need us to go further afield we charge 45p a mile. Daily visits are within the Watford area only. Apart from that any purchases, bookings or services you ask us to undertake will be included on your invoice at cost. If the value is over £50 we will ask you to make payment in advance.

What qualifications do you have? Are you insured and DBS checked?

There are no formal qualifications to be a house sitter but I’ve spent almost 20 years organising, planning and delivering to deadlines. You can find out more about me here.

We have public and professional liability insurance and are DBS checked.
